LSC along with our partner brands Silca and ABUS sponsor the MLAA’s John Andrew Apprentice of the Year Award. This annual award honours the memory of the late John Andrew who was the Association's inaugural Life Member and a winner of the A.L. Chantry Memorial Award for the Pursuit of Excellence. Every year the MLAA across Australia and New Zealand run a competition to select the best final year apprentice, and the competition is tightly fought, and is quite prestigious. The test covers picking, impressioning, lockfitting, master keying and general knowledge and the prize includes an all-expenses paid trip to Silca’s factory in Italy and an ABUS’ factory in Germany.
The 2017 winner was Zach Winslade from Independent Locksmiths in Sydney. He attended both the Silca and ABUS factories with his employer Keiran McGovern. Zach is pictured here at Silca (on the left). Funny, he wore shorts to the factory (typical locksmith) and Silca’s OHS rules require him to wear pants – so they gave him some special “Silca red” factory worker pants for the day!
